Part 2 Research Project 16.Marking Criteria6.1Essay Questions and Research Project 1 College Common (0-100) Grading Scheme. The College Common Grading Scheme will be used as appropriate for extended pieces of writing with 0-10 marking on short answer responses of a factual nature. 6.2Multiple Choice Questions and Extended Matching Questions. The number of marks available for each type of question will be clearly stated on the examination paper. A question left unanswered or deleted by the candidate will score zero. If the candidate has achieved at least 50% in Part 2 these marks will be carried forward. If the candidate has achieved less than 50% in Part 2, they will be required to rework and resubmit the project (item viii in 7.1 above). A candidate who fails overall at the first attempt due to Part 2 will be required to rework and resubmit the project (item viii. listed in 7.1 above). If the candidate has passed Part 1 these marks will be carried forward. A candidate who has failed overall at the first attempt due to failure to achieve the required thresholds in both Part 1 and Part 2 will be required to retake both Parts as listed in 7.1 above. A candidate who fails at the first attempt is required to take the resit or withdraw from the course. The overall mark obtained at the second attempt will be no greater than 50%.9.5A candidate who fails at the resit will be required to withdraw from the course. S/he has a right of appeal as described in College Regulations. 10.Classification10.1A candidate who, at the first attempt, obtains an overall mark of 70% or more, with a mark of at least 65% gained in each of the two elements (1. Problem Solving and Interpretation), will be awarded a pass with distinction.10.2A candidate who, at the first attempt, obtains an average mark of 65% or more but who does not meet the criteria for the award of a pass with distinction, will be awarded a pass with merit, provided each of the two elements (1. Problem Solving and Interpretation) is passed.10.3A candidate who passes Year 2 but does not proceed with study will be eligible for the award of Diploma of Higher Education.11.Disclosure of Marks Results will be published by candidate number.12.Absence from in course summative assessments12.1Where a student has an allowable absence, s/he will be marked absent (A) from a summative assessment.
