Elisa Vasilopoulou is a lecturer in Basic Sciences with a research interest in renal biology and physiology. 

Elisa Vasilopoulou obtained a 1st class BSc (Hons) from Aston University in 2006. She completed her PhD at the University of Birmingham in 2010, supervised by Dr Shiao-yng Chan and Professor Mark Kilby. Subsequently she undertook postodoctoral research at the University of Birmingham and at UCL with Professor David Long, followed by the award of fellowship funding by Kidney Research UK in 2015. In 2017, she joined the Medway School of Pharmacy as research fellow, followed by appointment to lecturer in 2018. In 2021, Elisa was appointed lecturer in basic sciences in the department of Comparative Biomedical Sciences at the 91°µÍø.

Elisa’s research aims to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie kidney disease progression to develop new therapeutic targets. She uses a combination of in vitro and in vivo models to investigate the role of inflammation in kidney injury and repair.
