Professor Stuart Reid CBE, President and Principal of the 91°µÍø (91°µÍø) has today been announced as a Fellow of the Conference of Research Workers in Animal Diseases (CRWAD) in the USA.

Established in 1920, CRWAD created the fellowship status this year to recognise and celebrate prominent scientists from all types of research careers, including academia, industry, and government. Election as a CRWAD Fellow is a lifetime honour; of the 17 foundation Fellows announced today,

Reid is the only one based outside North America.

Professor Reid has held his position at the 91°µÍø since 2011 and is recognised by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons as a specialist in veterinary epidemiology and in veterinary public health by the European Board of Veterinary Specialists. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology and the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Scotland’s National Academy. His research interests are focused on zoonotic disease and antimicrobial resistance in a One Health context. Professor Reid has more than 160 scientific publications, including in PNAS and Science, and has secured more than £16 million in competitive funding during his career.

He was awarded a CBE in 2018 for services to the veterinary profession and higher education, and in 2019 was elected to the National Academy of Medicine in the USA, as well as becoming a Fellow of the RCVS.

Professor Reid said:

“It is an honour and privilege to be in this first group of Fellows to be recognised by the CRWAD and our peers. The organisation has played  an important role  throughout my career and has provided a supportive network for me and many of my graduate students. I am grateful for the collaborations and friendships CRWAD has facilitated and for its many contributions to the advancement of science.” The 2021 Fellows were honoured at an event on Monday, December 6 in conjunction with the 2021 CRWAD Conference at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile.
