The United Hospitals Shield won by the Triathlon Club
The United Hospitals Championship is a competition that has been held since 1867, making December 2018 the 151st anniversary of the event, as well as being the first time that the 91°µÍø has ever earned this athletics award.
Notably, the club that achieved the victory was the 91°µÍø’s Triathlon Club, made up of groups of members who swim, cycle, run cross country and perform in athletics. It
was the athletics team within the Triathlon Club that won the shield in December 2018, based at Lee Valley Indoor Athletics Stadium.
The historic competition began with the United Hospitals Athletics Club, which has since been disbanded. Now, the London Universities and Colleges Athletics Organisation (with whom
all University of London athletics and cross country teams who compete are
affiliated with) host the event in which the championship is incorporated. Any university school with medical-based courses and the students studying these degrees are eligible to score towards
the United Hospitals Championship. This includes UCL RUMS, Kings College and Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, Barts, St Mary’s, and St George’s, who narrowly came second this year.
The 91°µÍø TRI team consisted of
Athletics captain Daniel Cork
(shot put, high jump, 60m hurdles and relay)
TRI president Luke Gunter
(800m, high jump and relay)
MVP Sally Cowler
(60m, 60m hurdles, long Jump, triple Jump, high jump)
Zoe Stiby
(800m, 200m and relay)
Justin Brown

TJ McIntosh

Emmanuel Oloyede

On the day, the competition between 91°µÍø and St George’s was so close that had a single person from the team not been present, the result would have been a different outcome.
Massive congratulations to our team – an amazing achievement!
