Sandra graduated from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2013. After graduation, she undertook a general internship at the small animal teaching hospital from the same university and worked for six months in a referral emergency hospital. From 2016 to 2019 she completed an oncology internship followed by an ECVIM approved oncology residency at the Small Animal Teaching Hospital from the University of Liverpool. Sandra worked as a lecturer in small animal oncology at the same institution until 2020. She was awarded the ECVIM-CA Diploma in Oncology in 2021, becoming a European recognised Specialist in Veterinary Oncology. Her main research interests include feline oncology, cancer epidemiology, and tumour biomarkers.

This project aims to explore the frequency of different cancers and factors associated with these cancers in dogs from the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study cohort. Alongside this, VetCompass health data will be examined to explore cancer frequency and risk factors in both Golden Retrievers and the wider, UK primary-practice attending population.

Prospective evaluation of palliative and adjuvant toceranib phosphate therapy in dogs diagnosed with metastatic or recurrent insulinomas
Insulinomas are the most common tumours of the pancreas in dogs. This multi-institutional prospective study evaluates the effectiveness of the drug toceranib phosphate in the treatment of insulinomas in dogs. This is an observational multi-institutional prospective trial. Client preferences regarding control/treatment group allocation will be followed and enrolment will not be blinded or randomised.
